As part of a project led by the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE), national workshops were held in Chile and Argentina to strengthen regional capabilities in the development of low-emission hydrogen. The meetings, which took place on June 24 and 26, respectively, brought together key stakeholders from the public and private sectors, academia, and international organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The main objective of the workshops was to analyze the opportunities and challenges both countries face in meeting the European Union’s certification requirements, a crucial step for exporting hydrogen products and their derivatives. According to David Delgado, the project’s technical director, Chile has made significant progress, with an institutional framework and planning already in place that will serve as a “very important example” for other countries in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Discussions during the event highlighted the need for specific legislation for low-emission hydrogen in Chile to provide stability and reduce regulatory risks. It was concluded that a national certification system must be designed to minimize costs, thereby making the industry more appealing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These workshops are part of a broader initiative funded by the Chile-EU Joint Triangular Cooperation Fund (ADELANTE 2 Program), which will also include missions in Colombia and Panama.
