Within the framework of a key strategic meeting, a delegation of representatives from the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) visited the main building of the Chilean Antarctic Institute (INACH). The objective of the meeting was to learn firsthand about the technical work carried out by the institution and its fundamental role in the National Antarctic Policy.

The European delegation was composed of Members of Parliament Angelika Niebler, Dan Nica, Raúl de la Hoz, Michal Kobosko, Sara Matthieu, and Isabella Lövin, representing nations such as Germany, Poland, and Spain, among others. Authorities from the Chilean agency, led by the acting director of INACH, Andrés López Lara, were in charge of receiving the visitors.

During the meeting, the main areas of action of INACH were reviewed in detail, and a dialogue was held regarding the contribution of the science generated from Chile. The conversations placed special emphasis on efforts to protect the environment on the White Continent and on the development of various regional scientific projects focused on renewable energies.

The meeting made it possible to envision potential areas for joint collaboration between INACH and the European Parliament in matters of Antarctic science, climate change, and sustainability. In this way, the institutional commitment to international cooperation was reinforced, as well as the strategic positioning of the Magallanes region as the main gateway to the polar territory.

It is worth noting that INACH, as a technical body of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile, operates with full autonomy in scientific, technological, and Antarctic dissemination matters. Through the organization of the National Antarctic Science Program (PROCIEN) and its active participation in the Antarctic Treaty System, the institution continues to encourage research of excellence and the dissemination of knowledge to the public.
