NH3Event organises a conference exclusively on ammonia.

On 10-11 April, the Netherlands-based Ammonia Association organised the first ammonia event in Latin America, following several in Europe and the Middle East.

Ammonia is expected to become the preferred derivative for storing green hydrogen and transporting it, as hydrogen itself requires very low temperatures and pressures to be shipped.

In addition, ammonia is the raw material for various (petro)chemical processes, such as fertiliser production. And finally, ammonia can be used as a fuel. Ammonia is therefore not only a hydrogen carrier, but has its own potential applications.

On the other hand, ammonia is a hazardous, polluting and explosive substance, which needs to be treated with care and surrounded by strict safety protocols and processes in its production, transport, storage, etc.

Around 150 participants attended and listened and discussed with ammonia experts and with each other, as they all have this common interest in ammonia. To start with, representatives of NH3Event were present, but also representatives of several specialised companies, including Dutch companies Arcadis, Port Consultants Rotterdam, Proton Ventures and Vopak. All as part of the Dutch Partners for International Business programme, co-funded by the Dutch Enterprise Agency RVO.

Most of the attendees were very happy to move away from the more generic hydrogen discussion and talk more in detail about specific ammonia-related issues.

All in all, a successful event that will probably be repeated in 2025.
